This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.

Summary:

  • Under the direction of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, this position provides quality service to prospective and current students, follows student aid program practices and policies including federal, state and university regulations to accurately assist clients, works collaboratively with the entire team to successfully perform various financial aid office duties, and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • The Financial Aid Specialist will be assigned to the Technical Support, Customer Service, or Financial Aid Process Support work unit. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides exceptional customer service for students, employees, and the public by responding to inquiries concerning financial aid eligibility while ensuring students understand all policies and procedures related to their financial aid application. This includes assisting students in person, answering phones, emails, and chat communications.
  • Participates in various office outreach programs such as: open house, new student orientation, and financial literacy programs. These may be in-person or virtual. On camera presence required when virtual.
  • Uses Ellucian Banner, CampusLogic, and other software programs to complete work and provides accurate information to constituents. Adheres to student confidentiality protocols.
  • Completes the Return to Title IV calculations accurately and timely for students who withdraw from the University (officially or unofficially). Processes adjustments in aid as a result to include post-withdrawal disbursement notification. Communicates the results and implications to students.
  • Reviews documentation submitted to ensure the student submitted what is required to complete verification, appeals, or to clear eligibility edits. Must be able to accurately and concisely instruct students and parents on steps to complete while avoiding jargon.
  • Performs various data entry and student application record updates. Completes work assigned quickly and accurately. 
  • Collaborates with partner offices to resolve complicated student or program-related issues. Recommends solutions for senior management consideration when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of relevant, professional-level work experience, preferably in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of undergraduate financial aid programs and regulations and the ability to interpret and effectively administer financial aid programs governed by federal, state, institutional and private financial aid regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to provide quality and caring service to students and other constituents.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills, including handling stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work and structure the work day so that assignments are completed accurately and timely with limited supervision necessary.
  • Proficiency in Banner, Microsoft Applications and Cognos. Must be comfortable working with technology. Experience with CampusLogic a plus.

Salary:

  • Range 21 (Step 1 = $54,684)
