Communications Specialist, University College

Professional Services Specialist 2 (AFT Range 24)

Department: University College

Position Summary: University College is seeking a full-time communications specialist to develop and execute innovative initiatives to engage students via myriad communication strategies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing our communication strategies, including website management; social media engagement; the creation of marketing materials; and communication campaigns to support equitable student success. University College’s mission is to engage students in high-quality, accessible academic and professional development services and opportunities, to provide every student with a path to achieve their goals. The Communications Specialist is a key member of the University College Dean’s office and will work with all Departments in the College.

Specific Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, monitor, and report the effectiveness of communication campaigns, using data to inform future strategies
  • Proactively design and monitor University College webpages to ensure that website content is timely and accurate throughout the academic year, making updates as needed using the university’s web content management system (Cascade)
  • Track and analyze website traffic and user engagement using analytics tools to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop and execute social media strategies to increase engagement and awareness
  • Create, schedule, and publish content across various social media platforms
  • Stay informed of emerging social media platforms and communications strategies
  • Monitor and respond to social media interactions to foster positive community engagement
  • Analyze social media performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed to improve outcomes
  • Design, produce, and distribute marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, presentations, and digital content
  • Ensure all materials are consistent with Rowan’s brand standards
  • Exhibit the ability to work within a team and independently
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to develop content for promotional campaigns and events
  • Collaborate with partners across the University working in related functions
  • Engage in professional development opportunities, including staying current with retention related issues and initiatives
  • Assist with campus events such as Open Houses, Accepted Student Receptions, and Orientations
  • Position may require some evening and weekend activities
  • Other duties and support tasks as assigned
  • This is an in-person position; up to one day per week of remote work may be possible, depending on operational needs

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in communications, marketing, advertising, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field
  • Proficiency in digital communications tools, including website content management, social media, and content creation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrate experience contributing to social media platforms
  • Attuned to issues in higher education regarding student success, equity, and engagement
