The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person hired to an exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York or have ninety (90) days from the date of employment to establish, then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York.

Job Description:

The Assistant Director, Student Success Technology and Data Analytics, will support University and Division goals to increase myriad indicators of student success and well-being by optimizing student support technologies and data analytics for strategic, proactive outreach and reporting. This position will provide dedicated expertise to support applicable technology systems (including automating processes for efficiency) and to collect and report numerous indices of student success (such as retention, academic performance, graduation, experiential education participation, and post-graduate placement). This position will have a strong impact on student success at Rowan through numerous collaborative projects, with focus on improving equity in outcomes for students across demographic groups and academic areas.

Reports to: Director, University Advising Services (within the Division of Student Affairs)

Responsibilities:

  • Support all data analytics needs and technology platforms used in the Division of Student Affairs (University Advising Services, Office of Career Advancement, Disability Resources, Military Services, Office of Health Professions, various academic support services, student-related academic policies, and related areas)
  • Liaise between the Division of Student Affairs and Information Resources & Technology (IRT)/Analytics, Systems & Applications (ASA); Registrar; Financial Aid; Bursar; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Strategic Enrollment Management; and other relevant University partners on needs related to data analytics and reporting
  • Collaborate closely with the Coordinator of University Retention Systems and other staff within the Division to establish and accomplish goals
  • Lead assessment and plan for expanded use of student success-related technology platforms and data sources (including but not limited to Starfish, Degree Works, Self-Service/Native Banner, Cognos, Tableau Dashboards, Slate, Symplicity, FOCUS-2, AIMS) by staff and students; provide training to optimize use of these platforms and data sources
  • Provide leadership for projects to increase accuracy and efficiency via automation/workflows such as for student engagement in experiential education, freshman schedule creation, student change of major, first-destination survey (post-graduate), and other emergent needs
    • Generate reports regularly to monitor student academic progress, indicators of student engagement and well-being, retention, and graduation rates with focus on addressing equity gaps identified through disaggregated data analyses
    • Collaborate with Student Affairs managers to gather, analyze, and disseminate assessment data for continuous improvement, including designing and using metrics for student success, student utilization of and quality of services, and staff efficacy, and participate in decision-making process for these areas
    • Generate reports on student enrollment analytics to support academic leadership (Dean’s offices, Department Heads/Chairs) to ensure sufficient course sections and to understand shifts in student enrollment patterns
    • Contribute to data democratization and a culture of data-informed practice and decision making within the Division and related offices
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Three (3) years of professional related experience required; higher education experience preferred
  • Knowledge of information technology systems and reporting tools; experience with platforms such as Starfish, Degree Works, Tableau, Cognos, Banner preferred
  • Proficiency in assessment procedures and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, manage, analyze, and interpret a broad range of data and information
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and facilitate multiple projects and deadlines independently
  • Successful experience building collaborative partnerships within a wide variety of campus constituencies
  • Understanding of student success indicators and issues of equity gaps based on factors such as race, ethnicity, first-generation status, socioeconomic status, disability status, and more
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including of technical content to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong consultative and advisory skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • Creative problem-solving skills
