Title: Research Support and Instruction Librarian

Position Summary:
The Research Support and Instruction Librarian supports the HBS Library’s scholarly and research support initiatives and delivers instructional and information services that advance the educational, research, and clinical missions of Rowan-Virtua SOM, Virtua Health College, and affiliated health programs. This position combines technical and administrative responsibilities related to the Institutional Repository (IR) with research support, teaching, and reference.
This role requires commitment to user-centered service, and the ability to work collaboratively across academic, research, and clinical environments.
Qualifications:
This is a full-time, non-tenure, unionized position (AAUP) that requires working one weekday evening and is primarily onsite at the Stratford campus. Occasional work from other Virtua Health College locations as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Scholarly Communication:
• Assists in the promotion and support of scholarly communication initiatives, including educating users on topics such as open access and predatory publishing.
• Designs and delivers instruction on scholarly communication topics, including open access and responsible authorship practices.
• Supports education and outreach programs on copyright and fair use principles for faculty, students, and staff, serving as an initial resource for related questions.
• Assists in advising users on Read & Publish (Transformative Open Access) agreements and other Open Access funding initiatives.
Repository and Bibliography Management:
• Supports Institutional Repository (IR) activities at Rowan-Virtua SOM in collaboration with the IR manager and IR Committee.
• Follows established policies and creates procedures governing workflows and content deposits at Rowan-Virtua SOM and the Virtua Health College and educates users on copyright compliance.
• Assists in the curation and maintenance of the Rowan-Virtua SOM Faculty Bibliography and provides instructional support on citation management and scholarly identity tools (e.g., ORCID).
Instruction and Reference Services:
• Leads formal and informal educational sessions for students and faculty on library resources, research strategies, and information management techniques.
• Collaborates with faculty and library staff to integrate library resources into curricula and develop instructional content.
• Provides hands-on instruction in citation management tools (e.g., EndNote) through workshops and consultations.
• Provides reference services and research consultation, including mediated and unmediated medical and biomedical literature searches and support for evidence‑based practice in clinical, educational, and research contexts using all available databases and internet resources.
• Creates, maintains, and updates LibGuides and instructional content for the Library’s website, covering health-related topics and research skills.
Outreach and Professional Development:
• Serves on Rowan University Library committees, task forces, and teams, as well as on appropriate Rowan-Virtua SOM and Virtua Health College committees and task forces. (e.g., Institutional Repository Committee).
• Represent the HBS Library through active participation in outreach initiatives
• Maintain expertise in health sciences information resources and instructional technologies.
• Engage in professional activities and contribute to the advancement of health sciences librarianship.
Compliance:
• Adheres to Rowan University’s compliance standards, including the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
•Maintains awareness of all relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.
•Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Technology from an ALA-accredited program
• At least 2 years of academic library experience
• Familiarity with institutional repositories, content management systems, and instructional design principles
• Understanding of scholarly communication trends
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including teaching and presentation abilities
• Evidence of a strong commitment to service in a user-centered environment
• Flexibility and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as the needs of the library and university evolve
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a health sciences or biomedical library environment
• Experience in using and providing instruction and support for reference management software, such as EndNote
• Knowledge of biomedical literature searching and principles of Evidence-Based Practice
Salary Information:
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $76,000 to $86,000. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations.”
